CAREERS

Character Attributes We Care About

Below, we share our values (what we care about and aspire to) and what we expect of ourselves and our work together. We are much more likely to succeed in life and business if we are working with great people with shared values. So, we created this list to help you (and us) evaluate whether we might be a good fit to work together.

We value these character traits and strive to model them personally and in our team/culture. No, we don’t model them all perfectly (yet…probably never…), but this is where we are headed. Does this describe you and the people you like to be around? If so, let’s please talk!

“I strive to be…”

  • 1. Trustworthy and high-integrity - in all aspects of my life.
  • 2. Wise, mature, and commonsensical - I model sound judgment and reduce drama in all situations.
  • 3. A strong problem solver - tenacious, smart, creative.
  • 4. A critical thinker - deep, meaningful, often.
  • 5. A good steward of attention - investing and scaling it, never wasting it (for myself and team).
  • 6. Curious, constantly learning, growing, and seeking wisdom - intentionally pursuing knowledge and wisdom in all aspects of life, via books, people, experiences.
  • 7. Ambitious for myself and others. I want to live a meaningful life and make meaningful contributions to my communities and the world.
  • 8. A BIG and BOLD thinker and doer - "It is not the critic who counts. ... The credit belongs to the one who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by the dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly ... who, at worst, if s/he fails, at least fails while daring greatly; so that her/his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.” ― Theodore Roosevelt
  • 9. Tenacious in the pursuit of my personal/team goals, AND wise enough to know when to persist or pivot.
  • 10. Committed to myself and team - “I honor my commitments to myself, colleagues, clients, and others.”
  • 11. Generous, NOT envious - mature and self-secure. I celebrate others’ successes.
  • 12. FUN! I love and promote fun with my presence and influence.
  • 13. Humble, patient (not easily angered), and kind - others like to be around me.
  • 14. Hopeful - I am hopeful and able to inspire others. (no, not blind or oblivious)
  • 15. An ethical exemplar - “always do the right thing, even when it’s hard.”
  • 16. Caring and respectful - myself, colleagues, clients, others. No one is “beneath me.”
  • 17. A positive force. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • 18. Self-motivated - intrinsic motivation, NOT extrinsic. (we’re terrible at micro-managing)
  • 19. A positive influence on others - I inspire, help develop, and bring out the best in others.
  • 20. A valued team member - a key to the success of a team effort.
  • 21. On a Hero's Journey and working towards an important outcome for my life.
  • 22. An independent thinker - avoid the mob and groupthink, when appropriate.
  • 23. A person of [intentional] action - I tend to wisely and intentionally act, not wait - regardless of whether it is hard, uncomfortable, or expensive.
  • 24. Practical, fast, and efficient - get it done! A bold and important mission requires it.
  • 25. One that looks beyond the traditional indicators of talent (degrees/GPA, physical characteristics, where you live, how much money you have, social skills, clothing/hygiene, “like me”, etc.) to see greatness within truly great people. This list shares the indicators we value.
  • 26. Bonus: You love and maybe even have experience creating impactful videos and learning experiences using creative media and technology.
